What is a Floor Plan?
Each floor plan is for only one ‘layer’ of the building, so if it is a two or three storey home or building there must be a floor plan for each floor. The floor plan will also contain certain symbols that tell about what materials are to be used in the construction of various parts, and what finishes are to be used. It will show the basic details of some rooms such as the position and size of the windows and doors and where any built-in cupboards will be located.
Other fixtures in the building such as water heaters, furnace, sinks and the position of the toilet will also be in the floor plan. Notes of measurements are often written in the spaces between the walls. The floor plan is considered to be drawn not at floor level, but at about three feet above the level of the floor so that certain things such as power outlets are included.
